Mole Mapping

Mole mapping is the process of a trained dermatologist marking specific melanocytic nevi or "moles", photographing them, and storing the images for follow up, with the goal of detecting melanomas as early as possible.

At Klein Dermatology and Associates, Dr. Klein numbers each slightly atypical melanocytic lesion first with a marking pen; then the assistant staff member carefully photographs each segment of the body with a digital camera. This is followed up with a special Polaroid camera that takes a picture in a 1:1 ration for measurement. These are stored then carefully compared for changes on future examinations.
